We rely on a large and happy gang of volunteer helpers from complete novices to fully qualified Senior Instructors.  We would love to hear from you if you are able to help.  

The options are many and varied. 

 

  • Shore Helpers

  • Safety Boat Crew

  • First Aiders

  • Power Boat and Safety Boat Drivers

  • Assistant Dinghy Instructors

  • Dinghy Instructors

  • Senior Instructors

 

Boating experience is helpful but not necessary.  For those who are willing to help out on a regular basis, we run RYA certificated courses. 

 

Helpers are asked to familiarise themselves with our Operations Manual to be found in the downloads area of the main RDYC website.

 

Shore Helpers

 

Help rig and launch boats.

Help sign all Juniors on and off the river.

Learn shore based emergency procedures.

Help de-rig and stow away.

Take a turn at Galley duty to keep tea, coffee and hot chocolate flowing when necessary.

Fend off and help juniors come alongside the pontoon.

Manage Junior Log Books.

Run a lost property and spare clothing and equipment stand. 

Enjoy the company of like minded parents.

Safety Boat Helpers
 

Accompany the Safety Boat Driver.

Keep an eye on a designated Group of Juniors.

Assist with anchoring, mark laying, towing.

Encourage Juniors on the water.

Learn how to right a capzied boat.

Learn how to use VHF radio.

Ferry youngsters safely from and to base.

 

Build on-the-water experience.

Work towards First Aid Certificates, Power Boat Certificates etc.

Have a great time.
